The most powerful professors at Hogwarts - Top 10

Hogwarts is known for being the best school in the Wizarding World. Of course, it would not have been possible without excellent professors. Among all the impressive witches and wizards passing on knowledge at Hogwarts, we are trying to rank the Top 10. Do let us know if you agree with our choice, and what your list would be.

  1. Gilderoy Lockhart

Gilderoy Lockhart

Lockhart was the professor of Defence against the Dark Art in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret. Despite the fact that he was a useless buffon, his talent in Memory Charms is indeed remarkable.

  1. Rubeus Hagrid

Hagrid Harry Potter

Hagrid was one of the major wizards throughout the Harry Potter saga. Once the gamekeeper and Keeper of Keys and Grounds of Hogwarts, Hagrid was promoted to Care of Magical Creatures teacher during Harry Potter’s third year (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) thanks to his extensive knowledge of magical creatures.

  1. Filius Flitwick

Flitwick Harry Potter

Charms professor at Hogwarts, Flitwick knows how to manipulate the world around him.

During Harry’s first year (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone), Flitwick came up with the key puzzle when guarding the Philosopher’s stone. During the Hogwarts’ battle in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, he was able to take on Death Eaters and even subdue a few on his own.

  1. Dolores Umbridge

Dolores Umbridge Harry Potter

Professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts, and later on Headmaster at Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix. Despite how much we dislike Umbridge, she has indeed showed her excellent grasp on all sorts of dark spells in Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix. She has even tried to use the Unforgivable Curses on Harry Potter.

  1. Horace Slughorn

Horace Slughorn Harry Potter

Returning as Potions Master during Harry Potter’s 6th year (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince), he is one of the best potions professors the school ever had.

  1. Remus Lupin

Remus Lupin Harry Potter

Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher during Harry Potter’s third year (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), he was the one who taught Harry Potter how to do a Patronus Charm. He was, in our opinion, even the most effective Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher throughout the Harry Potter saga.

  1. Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody

Alastor Moody Mad eye Harry Potter

Known as one of the best aurors. Moody was responsible for an unprecedented number of Death Eaters in Azkaban Prison.

Okay, the one who taught in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire during Harry Potter’s 4th year was in reality Barty Crouch. But he was supposed to be the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher anyway, so we are counting him in!

  1. Severus Snape

Severus Snape Harry Potter

Snape invented his own spells when he was still a student at Hogwarts, and . He saved Dumbledore when he was on the brink of death.

Snape started as Hogwarts’ Potions Master, and later on Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher during Harry Potter’s 6th year in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. He then became the Headmaster of Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

  1. Minerva McGonagall

Minerva McGonagall Harry Potter

Often portrayed as the right-hand to Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall knows how to do all sorts of charms and transfigurations being an Animagus herself.

She also led the good wizards during the battle of Hogwarts and cast every spell in her arsenal to keep Voldemort and his Death Eaters at bay.

  1. Albus Dumbledore

Albus Dumbledore Harry Potter

Headmaster of Hogwarts throughout most of the Harry Potter series, it is safe to say that Dumbledore is the most powerful professor at Hogwarts.

With his Elder wand, Dumbledore managed to get away both times he was threatened imprisonment at Azkaban. He could also duel Voldemort and hold his ground.
